Chatham-Kent Public Health is reporting two more deaths linked to COVID-19.
The deaths were reported Wednesday morning.
Jeffo Moco of the health unit’s communications team said the two most recent deaths involved women in their 90s who passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance. It's unknown if they were vaccinated against the virus.
The local health unit has now logged a total of 38 deaths linked to COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.
"That's an increase of 13 since December," said Chatham-Kent Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Colby. "This is by far the most grim report that I have had to tell the board."
According to Colby, there are now 14 active outbreaks being reported in Chatham-Kent. The largest is at a Hudson Manor in Tilbury with 29 active cases. The second largest is at Park Street Place in Dresden with 20 active cases.
The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance reported on Wednesday that there are32 COVID-19 patients in the hospital and 16 of them are not vaccinated against the virus. Four of the COVID-19 patients are in the intensive care unit.
"In terms of our local situation, we are very much in line with Windsor-Essex and Sarnia-Lambton, In fact, their numbers are a little worse than ours but not significantly so," said Colby. "We are all doing about the same."
