Mischief in Dresden

Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers are reporting mischief at the Rotary Bandshell in Dresden over the past several weeks.

They say the structure in the Dresden Rotary Memorial Gardens Park has been spray-painted, sections of the wall have been kicked out, and the suspects have left behind a significant amount of garbage.

Crime Stoppers is urging the public to contact Chatham-Kent police if they see someone acting suspiciously around the bandshell or if they know who is causing the damage.

Disturbance leads to arrest 

Two men are facing charges after getting into an argument in Chatham.

According to police, officers responded to a disturbance on Sunday afternoon.

Officers learned that both men allegedly threatened each other while arguing.

As a result, a 33-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with uttering threats. A 26-year-old man from Blenheim was also arrested and charged with uttering threats.

Both men were released with future court dates.

Man arrested for theft 

A 33-year-old man is facing a handful of charges after allegedly stealing from a Chatham store.

Officers said they responded to the Shoppers Drug Mart on Queen Street on Sunday night in regards to a shoplifting complaint. The suspect allegedly concealed several items in his coat and left the store without paying.

An officer on general patrol located the man a short distance away and as he was placed under arrest, he allegedly fled on foot. The man was taken into custody following a short foot chase.

Through investigation, police learned that this was allegedly the third time that the man had stolen items from the store over the weekend.

The Chatham man was charged with three counts of theft under $5,000, three counts of being in possession of property obtained in a crime under $5,000 and escape lawful custody.

He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Motor vehicle collision

A 48-year-old Blenheim man is facing some driving-related charges after a collision in Chatham.

On Sunday night, police responded to a two-vehicle collision on Oxley Drive near St. Clair Street.

As a result, the man was charged with failing to signal a lane change and operating a motor vehicle with no insurance.

Damage is pegged around $50,000 and minor injuries were reported.
