St. Clair College tops 14,000 students

St. Clair College has maintained a steady level of enrollment compared to last year's pandemic-disrupted academic year.

The school presented its enrollment numbers for the Fall 2021 semester, which came to 14,034, an increase of 149 students over Fall 2020 and accounting for a jump of one per cent.

The total accounts for the main south Windsor campus, the downtown Windsor campus, the Chatham campus, and the Ace Acumen campus in the Toronto area. The college's enrollment report is based on registration figures from the end of the second week of class when students can no longer drop from the college and get a tuition refund.

Over 11,000 domestic and international students are in Windsor and Chatham, with the rest at the Ace Acumen campus.

"In the current environment, I am happy that we were able to maintain the status quo," said St. Clair College President Patti France in a media release. "I am proud of the accomplishments we have made to keep our campus community safe while providing a full, in-person education experience for a majority of students."

France said the college is pushing toward having all students, faculty, and staff vaccinated from COVID-19. Based on the current vaccination rates, France expects 94 per cent of the campus community to be vaccinated by mid-October.

International students who couldn't travel to Canada due to COVID-19 travel restrictions were allowed to attend their classes online. All other programs are being offered for in-person study.

The downtown Windsor campus, which includes the Zekleman School of Business and Information Technology, along with the MediaPlex, saw an increase in enrollment while the South Windsor and Chatham campuses reported slight drops.
