Chatham-Kent has another COVID-19 outbreak at a school to bring the number of local outbreaks up to four.
Chatham-Kent Public Health reported on Wednesday morning that Lambton-Kent Composite School in Dresden has two positive cases. The Lambton-Kent District School Board reported on it web site a confirmed student case and a staff member who tested positive for the virus. It's unclear if either of them are vaccinated against COVID-19. The school remains open.
Local public health officials said three other COVID-19 outbreaks continue at Dresden Area Central School with two cases, Praise Fellowship Church in Chatham with 24 cases, and an undisclosed workplace with three cases. The outbreak in the rehabilitation and stroke unit at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) was declared over on Tuesday afternoon.
The number of local active cases is down by four to 107. The health unit reported 16 new cases on Wednesday and 20 resolved cases. The number of COVID-19 patients at the hospital in Chatham is up to 15. CKHA is reporting that 13 are local residents and the others are not. Five of the patients are in the ICU on ventilators.
The local public school board is reporting a total of 20 student cases and one staff case at their schools across Chatham-Kent and the local Catholic school board said there are four student cases at two of their local schools. Monsignor Uyen has two cases and St. Angela Merici has two cases with one class closed. All public schools remain open.
Meanwhile, Chatham-Kent Health Alliance and local paramedics are adding more walk-in COVID-19 testing clinics at the hospital's 47 Emma Street location. CKHA officials said the extra testing is being done because of an increased demand for testing and a surge in cases across the community.
The walk-in testing clinics will be open on Thursday, as well as September 28 and 30, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. A health card and a list of medications are needed. CKHA’s COVID-19 Assessment Centre at 10 Grand Avenue plaza in Chatham remains open for booked appointments only seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Those appointments can be booked by clicking here or by calling 519-436-2556.
