SIU investigating after police shoot man in Tilbury

The Special Investigations Unit is investigating after a man was shot by police in Tilbury.

The SIU said a 62-year-old man is in the hospital with serious injuries after a Chatham-Kent police officer shot him Sunday night.

Police were called to the area of Laurentia Drive and Rose Avenue in Tilbury at 10:52 p.m. after receiving a call about a man armed with guns.

When officers arrived the man was found with a crowbar outside his residence on Laurentia Drive. Officers used a Taser on the man, but it was unsuccessful. The SIU said an officer then shot the man.

Police administered first aid before paramedics took over and the man was taken to the hospital.

The SUI has assigned four investigators and three forensic investigators to the case.

Investigators are canvassing the area and appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact them.

The SIU is also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through their website.
