UPDATE: Severe thunderstorms possible late Thursday

Parts of Southwestern Ontario are in line to be hit by severe thunderstorms packing torrential rain and strong winds Thursday afternoon and evening.

Environment Canada had issued a severe thunderstorm warning for London-Middlesex, Oxford County, Elgin County, Chatham-Kent, and Huron Perth.

By mid-Thursday evening, all warnings and watches were called off.

Hot, humid weather made conditions favourable for the development of the potentially dangerous storms, the national weather agency said.

The main threat from the thunderstorms was torrential rain, that was capable of dropping up to 50 mm within a relatively short period of time. Some of the storms also brought wind gusts up to 90 km/h.

Some areas also experienced flooding on major roads.

The unsettled weather cleared out overnight when slightly cooler and less humid air arrived. However, the heat warning remains in effect for now.
