Windsor Regional Hospital has taken to social media to encourage those who haven't gotten a complete COVID-19 vaccine to do so.
The hospital shared the latest provincial COVID-19 rates on its Twitter account on Sunday to urge people to reduce the effects of a fourth wave of the virus by getting the shot. COVID-19 testing has also been made available for same-day appointments.
"Same day and next day appointments are generally available, and we will further increase staff resources if necessary to accommodate higher demand to ensure same and next-day testing remains available," read a release issued Sunday by WRH. "WRH has periodically adjusted the hours of our COVID-19 Assessment Centres since the start of the pandemic to reflect recent demand trends, expanding them to ensure same-day appointments can be made, as well as lowering them when possible to preserve human resources."
Data from the Ontario Ministry of Health indicated that Windsor-Essex now leads the province in case rates per 100,000 people, with 98. The region also leads Ontario in weekly cases per capita with 91 and a seven-day case positivity rate at 5.7 per cent.
While the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit said Friday that COVID-19 hospitalizations are relatively low, getting vaccinated remains the strongest line of defence in keeping those numbers down. Figures from the Ontario COVID-19 Science Table show that the vast majority of new cases affect people who are not fully vaccinated.
With the mass vaccination clinic in Leamington closing over the weekend, those 12 and over who need a shot can get a walk-in appointment every day from 8 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. at the former Sears store at Devonshire Mall in Windsor.
