Alleged impaired driver caught in Chatham

A 26-year-old man accused of driving while under the influence of alcohol has been arrested after police stopped a vehicle that was travelling in the wrong direction.

A vehicle was stopped on Forsyth Street in Chatham shortly after midnight. The driver was arrested and taken to police headquarters for a breath test.

He was charged with impaired driving and eventually released from police custody with a future court date scheduled for September 7.

Police investigate break-in at LCBO

Police are investigating a break-in at an LCBO on Wellington Street West in Chatham.

Someone forced their way into the store around 12:30 a.m. Saturday and took off with $500 worth of alcohol.

Damage caused during the break-in is estimated at $1,000.

205 vehicles stopped during RIDE program

Officers kept busy Friday night with RIDE spot checks in Blenheim.

Chatham-Kent police said 250 vehicles were checked and three roadside tests were administered. One driver was issued a seven-day licence suspension.

Chatham man charged with break and enter

A 42-year-old Chatham man has been arrested after he was allegedly caught breaking into a residence.

Officers were called to Wellington Street East in Chatham shortly after midnight. Police found a man on the property when they arrived. He was arrested and charged with break and enter.

He has a future court date scheduled for September 21.
