Police seek information into mail thefts

Chatham-Kent police say several mailboxes were broken into at a building on 32 Thomas Avenue in Wallaceburg on Thursday.

Sometime between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. a suspect is said to have broken into the boxes and stolen mail.

Anyone with information into the thefts is asked to contact Cst. C Murphy at chaddm@chatham-kent.ca.

Woman faces public intoxication charges

Police say a woman faces charges of public intoxication following an incident outside a Tilbury business.

Officers received a complaint around 7:30 p.m. Friday about an unwanted person lingering outside the Beer Store. Police located a woman who appeared to be impaired by alcohol and unable to care for herself.

A 45-year-old Tilbury woman was taken back to police headquarters and later released.

Officers issue one notice during RIDE program in Chatham 

Chatham-Kent police conducted a RIDE program Friday evening on Keil Drive in Chatham.

Officers stopped a total of 75 vehicles during which one roadside test was conducted and one provincial offence notice was issued.

Police search for man towing BBQ on e-bike

Sometime around 3 a.m. Saturday, Chatham-Kent police were notified about a suspicious, unknown male.

According to police, the man was riding an e-bike connected to a trailer with a barbeque in it.

Officers later discovered there was a break-in at the Walmart compound on McNaughton Avenue in Wallaceburg.

The investigation is ongoing, anyone with information is asked to call police.

Emergency dispatchers overwhelmed by false 911 calls

The Chatham-Kent Police Service is reminding the public of when they should or should not be making a 911 call.

In the last 24 hours Chatham-Kent's emergency communication centre received 31 false 911 calls police said.

Emergency services should only be contacted if someone's life is in immediate danger, or if there is a crime in progress.

"False 911 calls are continuing to pull officers away from incidents that require their attention," Chatham-Kent police said in a statement on Saturday.

All other non-emergency incidents can be dealt with by calling Chatham-Kent's dispatch centre at 519-352-1234. Police officers can be reached for general inquiries by calling 519-352-1234 extension: 222.

Residents in need of municipal resources can call 311, local social service resources can be reached by calling 211.
