A vital transportation and commercial link in Windsor-Essex is back up and running.
The provincial government is working with the Owen Sound Transportation Company to resume the normal operation of ferry service on the Pelee Islander II. Starting at the end of May, the newer Pelee Islander II had been alternating weekly service with its older predecessor, the Pelee Islander, in providing ferry service to Pelee Island.
"Ferries not only connect the island in this community but also provide an important link with the rest of the province," said Chatham-Kent-Leamington MPP Rick Nicholls in a media release. "This resumption of service level ensures that residents, farmers, and businesses can continue to access the services and goods they require."
Any reservations that customers may have made will be honoured for the Pelee Islander II.
Ontario Transportation Minister Caroline Mulroney said the mystique about the ferry service is a big reason why it was necessary to get full service resumed.
"With summer in full swing, the return to the normal level of ferry service will ensure that those who live and visit the island will be able to take advantage of all that Pelee Island has to offer," said Mulroney.
