Pair of public intoxication arrests

Two people had to spend some time with Chatham-Kent police after a pair of separate arrests for being intoxicated in public.

On Thursday morning, officers located a 63-year-old man on Wellington Street who was sleeping on the sidewalk. According to police, the man was intoxicated by alcohol and unable to care for himself.

As a result, he was arrested, transported to police headquarters and lodged. He was released once sober.

Elsewhere early Friday morning, police received a call about a disturbance at the Tim Hortons on Third Street in Chatham.

Officers located a 40-year-old man in the parking lot who was impaired by alcohol and unable to care for himself.

He was arrested, transported to police headquarters and lodged. He was released once sober.

Theft from the construction site

Chatham-Kent police are appealing to the public for tips after a construction site in Chatham was broken into.

Sometime overnight Thursday, an unknown suspect forced their way into a construction site on St. Clair Street. Once inside, the culprit was able to grab $5,500 worth of tools before fleeing the scene.

Break-in at workshop. 

Police are looking for the person responsible for allegedly stealing tools from a workshop in Merlin.

According to police, it happened on Middle Line sometime overnight Thursday.

The suspect forced their way into the workshop and got away with $5,000 worth of tools.
