Lambton OPP respond to weapons complaint on Walpole Island

A 29-year-old man faces several charges after gunshots were allegedly fired at some people fishing near Walpole Island.

At around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Walpole Island officers were called to an area on Squirrel Island Road for a report of a man shooting a firearm.

Officers with the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit, Emergency Response Team, Canine Unit, and Crisis Negotiators responded to the scene where a suspect was located and taken into custody.

No one was injured during the incident.

As a result, a 29-year-old man, of Walpole Island First Nation, is charged with pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, assault with a weapon, discharging a firearm with intent.

The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear in a Sarnia courtroom at a later date.
