Closures for Canada Day in CK

Many CK residents will be off this Thursday in recognition of Canada Day, which also means limited hours and closures throughout the municipality.

Municipal offices and most services will be closed on July 1 and CK Transit will not be running on Thursday.

However, the Season Bus Route which takes residents to beaches at Mitchell’s Bay and Erieau will operate on Canada Day.

The Health and Family Services building will be closed on July 1. The Employment Resource Centres in Chatham and Wallaceburg will also be closed on Thursday.

Due to the holiday, garbage and recycling collection services in Chatham-Kent will be delayed by one day starting July 1 for the remainder of the week (Thursday pickup will be pushed to Friday and Friday pickup will be pushed to Saturday). The Wallaceburg Transfer Station will be closed on Thursday. All other transfer stations will be open regular hours and will not be affected by the holiday. Meanwhile, all leaf and yard depots in the municipality will be closed.

Several services offered at both Chatham-Kent Health Alliance’s sites will be also altered on Thursday in recognition of Canada Day.

All outpatient diagnostic tests will be unavailable on Thursday. Ambulatory care services, out-patient rehabilitation services, pre-surgical screening services, the Diabetes Education Centre, the TIA and CAD clinics, pulmonary function lab, outpatient lab services, health records and patient appointment offices will be closed. The oncology/chemotherapy department will also be closed as well as Elston Pharmacy at the Chatham site and The Business Office and Cashier’s Office. Hemodialysis care will stay open on the holiday as well.

The Chatham-Kent Mental Health and Addictions Program Outpatient Department will be closed on Thursday as well as the Rapid Access to Addiction Medicine Clinic. The immediate crisis line can still be reached by calling 1-866-299-7447. Chatham-Kent's municipal homeless response line will remain operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week and can be reached at 519-354-6628.

Anyone looking to get a COVID-19 test will still be able to do so. The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance's COVID-19 Assessment Centre will operate out of its new location at 10 Grand Avenue West in Chatham as of July 1.

If you were hoping to go for a swim at a municipal pool, you might have to make alternative plans. The Blenheim Gable Rees Rotary Pool, Wallaceburg Sydenham Pool and the seven outdoor pools located in Chatham, Dresden, Ridgetown, Thamesville and Tilbury will be closed July 1.

The Chatham Cultural Centre, Chatham-Kent Museum, Thames Art Gallery, ARTspace, Milner Heritage House and Ridge House Museum will also all be closed July 1.

As per usual, all emergency services such as police, fire and EMS will be available 24/7. Emergency rooms at hospitals in Chatham and Wallaceburg will also be open.
