Seven arrested during drug bust in Wallaceburg

Seven people are facing charges after Chatham-Kent police allegedly found some illegal drugs and some airsoft firearms when officers were searching a residence in Wallaceburg Tuesday night.

Police said they executed the search warrant as part of an ongoing drug investigation and seized approximately $12,000 worth of methamphetamine along with three BB airsoft guns, a knife, several cell phones, and some digital scales.

A 23-year-old Wallaceburg man, a 27-year-old Chatham Township man, a 31-year-old Wallaceburg woman, a 37-year-old man, a 51-year-old Wallaceburg man, a 52-year-old Wallaceburg man, and a 55-year-old Wallaceburg man are all facing drug trafficking charges as a result of the investigation. Some of the accused are also facing weapons-related charges and charges related to failing to comply with release conditions.

Police said four of the men and the woman were later released on conditions with a future court date.

Two of the accused were taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Man takes off with forklift keys

A 26-year-old Chatham man is facing charges after he allegedly stole some keys to a forklift on St. Clair Street in Chatham.

Police said they were called to the scene at around 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, adding that their investigation showed the man had allegedly taken the keys while an employee who was operating the forklift was taking a drink break.

Officers said the employee heard someone say, "Nice set of keys" before seeing the suspect running from the scene with keys to the forklift.

Police said the employee and a witness were able to "take physical control of the man" until officers arrived at the scene.

The accused was charged with theft, possession of property obtained by crime, and failure to comply with a release order. He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Two arrests on outstanding warrants

Chatham-Kent police have rounded up two more people who were both wanted on warrants for failing to attend court.

Police said one of them is a 42-year-old Chatham man who they picked up while they were responding to a call about an intoxicated person on Queen Street in Chatham on Tuesday.

A 40-year-old man who was also wanted for skipping court was also arrested just after midnight.

Both of them were taken into custody pending bail hearings.

Four vehicles keyed on Oxley Drive

Chatham-Kent police are appealing to the public for tips after someone scratched up vehicles at four separate residences on Oxley Drive in Chatham sometime overnight.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) and may be eligible for a cash reward.
