Swimmer refuses to come ashore
A 40-year-old man has been charged with breaching the peace after he allegedly took a dip in the Sydenham River in Wallaceburg and refused to come ashore.
Police said they found the man while they were responding to a complaint at around 8 p.m. Sunday of a suspicious person in a backyard on Old Glass Road.
Officers said the man left the backyard and went into the water, holding his clothing above his head as he waded in.
The man allegedly refused to come ashore and continued to tread water until the Chatham-Kent Fire Department dropped a boat in the water and pulled him out.
Police said the man was assessed by paramedics and was arrested once he was cleared.
The accused was taken to police headquarters for processing and later released from custody.

Man accused of stealing from gas station
A 39-year-old man has been arrested and charged after he allegedly stole some items from a gas station on St. Clair Street in Chatham.
Police said they were called to the business at around 7:45 a.m. Sunday and learned that someone had grabbed several items from the store and left without paying for them.
Officers were able to identify a suspect and arrested him. The accused was charged with theft and possession of stolen property and was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Search for break-in suspect comes up empty
Chatham-Kent police are appealing to the public for tips after several storage units were broken into at a compound on Grand Avenue East in Chatham.
Police said officers responded to an alarm call at the compound at around 2:40 a.m. Monday and saw a man fleeing from the property when they arrived.
Officers set up a perimeter and called in the K9 unit for help, but a search of the area came up empty.
Police said someone had broken into multiple storage units by breaking the locks with bolt cutters, adding that the property that was taken from them was recovered at the scene.

Wanted man arrested for allegedly breaching release conditions
A 41-year-old man who was wanted for violating his curfew and residence requirements earlier this month has been arrested.
Chatham-Kent police said they picked him up after a warrant was issued for his arrest for allegedly failing to reside at a specific residence and for breaching his 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew on June 11, 2021.
Police said he was arrested, charged accordingly, and released with a future court date.

Man arrested during disturbance call
A 32-year-old Chatham man is in more trouble with police after he was allegedly spotted out past his curfew.
Police said they found the man while they were responding to a disturbance call on Park Avenue West in Chatham at around 3:25 a.m. Monday.
At that time, officers also learned that the man was supposed to be in his residence from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. daily, so they arrested him and charged him with breaching a release condition.
He was later released from custody with a future court date.
