Tilbury man facing possession, impaired driving charges

A Tilbury man is facing impaired driving and drug charges after allegedly swerving in and out of oncoming traffic Tuesday afternoon.

Sarnia police received a complaint about an erratic driver travelling westbound on London Road near East Street at around 1:15 p.m.

Police located the suspect vehicle a short distance away and attempted a traffic stop.  The vehicle continued driving at a very slow speed and eventually came to a stop.

Police say the suspect's licence had been suspended, that he was breaching his conditions of release by being out of his residence, and that he was showing signs of impairment, leading to his arrest.

During a search of the vehicle, officers allegedly located drugs, including a quantity of suspected purple liquid fentanyl and approximately 1.2 grams of purple fentanyl in its solid state.

The accused was taken back to the police station where he submitted to testing with a Drug Recognition Expert.

The 35-year-old is charged with operation while impaired by drugs, failing to comply with a release order, and possession of a schedule one substance.

He was being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
