Strawberry season is underway in Midwestern Ontario

Local strawberries are ripe and ready to enjoy. Emily Morisson of Morrison Berries Country Market in Lucknow said to their surprise the berries were ready a ahead of schedule this year!

"It's very early, especially with that cold weather snap we had at the end of May. But the heat wave we had two weekends ago just popped them all on, so it's our first week, right now," explained Morrison.

She is expecting a good year for their crop.

"Even though we haven't had as much rain as we would have liked, we have a pond on the farm so rain and water makes the berries grow in size, and sun and heat, make them turn red. So without any rain, it's OK, because we've got the pond on the farm," said Morrison.

Morrison said pick your own berries returns this year, starting Thursday June, 17, 2021.

People are asked to reserve their time in advance to ensure social distancing.

She added there's an, "online reservation system on our website, so you can go online, reserve your day, reserve your time, and then come on out."

Saturday is already booked up! Morrison berries are also available in local grocery stores, and at the farm. It's open from Monday to Saturday at 9:00 a.m.

Morrison says, " We hope to go as long as we can, into the middle of July. We're a family farm, and we're really excited the community has been supporting us for almost 40 years now, so we're very thankful."
