Two suspended drivers pulled from the road

A 35-year-old Chatham man and a 36-year-old Wallaceburg man who weren't supposed to be driving are both facing charges now after a pair of traffic stops in Chatham-Kent yesterday.

Police said the Chatham man was arrested after an officer on patrol stopped a van on Richmond Street in Chatham Tuesday afternoon.

The officer allegedly recognized the man behind the wheel as a suspended driver and pulled him over near West Street.

The accused was charged with failing to comply with his release conditions by operating a motor vehicle and driving while suspended.

He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

In the second case, an officer on general patrol in Wallaceburg Tuesday afternoon allegedly spotted a suspicious vehicle in the area of Bruinsma Avenue and pulled it over.

Police said the officer learned that the man behind the wheel of that vehicle was suspended from driving for unpaid fines and that the license plates attached to the vehicle were not authorized for it and had expired in 2008.

A Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with driving while under suspension, using unauthorized license plate, and failing to have insurance. The license plates were seized, the vehicle was towed from the scene, and the man who was arrested has a future court date.
