A local member of the Ontario legislature got more nature than he bargained for during a recent drive through Brant County.
Chatham-Kent-Leamington MPP Rick Nicholls reported on his Facebook page over the weekend that he was driving westbound on Highway 403 near Paris at around 9:45 p.m. Thursday night when a deer bolted out into traffic in front of his vehicle. Needless to say, Nicholls had little time to react.
"The impact was so forceful, my steering wheel and under the steering wheel column airbags deployed," wrote Nicholls in the post.
Nicholls said he had both hands on the steering wheel before and right after the collision, which kept his vehicle steady, but the front end of the car had serious damage.
"I’ve never been a fan of driving at night. You never know what you may not see until it’s too late," said Nicholls. "I was shaken up but many thanks to the [OPP] Brant detachment and the CAA tow truck operator for their excellent work."
