Suspicious man arrested near CP Railway tracks

A 39-year-old man has been arrested and charged after he was allegedly spotted carrying a firearm while riding a bicycle on the CP Railway tracks along Richmond Street in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police said they received that report Wednesday morning and found the man with the firearm while they were following up on the tip.

Officers said the man allegedly tried to evade police by going into a bush along the tracks.

By the time he came out, he didn't have the firearm anymore, but police said a search of the area did turn up a pellet gun close to where the man was found.

Officers said they also learned that the bike the man was riding was reported stolen and that the man was currently bound by conditions not to have any firearms or weapons.
