Fewer patients in Chatham hospital ICU

The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) is reporting the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) occupancy at the Chatham hospital is down to 60 per cent.

It hasn't been that low for weeks. It reached 90 per cent capacity two weeks ago. Occupancy at the Medical, Surgical, and Critical Care Unit is also at its lowest in a while. It has dropped to 76.1 per cent.

On Tuesday, CKHA also reported there are currently ten COVID-19 patients at the hospital. Nine are local residents and one is not. Four of them are in the ICU and two are on ventilators. A third patient on a ventilator in the ICU is not a COVID-19 patient.

Hospital officials said the outbreak at the Medicine Unit continues with five active cases.

Chatham-Kent Public Health reported another small COVID-19 outbreak at an undisclosed workplace and a few new cases. Public health officials said the new workplace outbreak has two cases. The health unit said there are six new cases and three resolved cases to bring the total number of active cases up to 35 in Chatham-Kent.
