The Medical Officer of Health for Grey and Bruce is praising the community's response to his declaration of a critical threshold, saying it contained and further surge of the virus.
In a release late Thursday afternoon, Dr. Ian Arra says the community embraced public health's direction to stay home for 48 hours and some businesses and organizations went a step further by voluntarily shutting their doors for two days.
Arra says it allowed the health unit to redeploy staff to case management and find those at risk so they could isolate to limit further spread.
"Public health did what we had to do. The community did what they had to do. And together, we were able to contain this potentially dangerous surge in COVID-19 cases." said Dr. Ian Arra. "It is crucial for all of us to stay the course with the 3Ws, wash your hands, watch your distance and wear a mask over the coming weeks until the vaccine rollout is complete this summer."
