More COVID-19 cases confirmed at two London schools

Despite the majority of students currently learning online only, COVID-19 cases continue to be reported at London schools.

The Thames Valley District school board confirmed late Wednesday there were two new infections at Rick Hansen public on Ponderosa Crescent and one case at Stoneybrook public on Stoneybrook Crescent. Close contacts of the infected are being notified.

"If you do not receive a letter from Thames Valley indicating the public health unit has identified your child as a close contact, your child is not considered to be at risk," the board said in a statement. "Only those staff and students who have been identified as a close contact will be notified and advised to stay home from school and quarantine for a period of 14 days."

Thames Valley currently has 36 active COVID-19 cases at 24 of its schools. The London District Catholic school board has reported 14 active cases at ten schools.

Of the schools with reported cases in the region, seven have declared outbreaks - East Carling Public, École élémentaire catholique Frère-André, Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary, Providence Reformed Collegiate, St. Andre Bessette Secondary, St. Anne's Catholic, and St. Francis Catholic.

Students across Ontario shifted to full-time remote learning since returning from spring break last week. The exception is students in special needs classes who continue to learn in-person.
