COVID-19 casecount grows in Midwestern Ontario

On Wednesday, The Grey Bruce Health Unit added 16 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, and reported 138 active cases. Owen Sound, Brockton and Kincardine each had three new cases. Saugeen Shores and Meaford each had two, and there was one new case in Blue Mountains, South Bruce and Grey Highlands. There have now been 1,127 confirmed cases including 205 variants of concern. There are 67 active cases involving variants. Six residents are in hospital with the virus, two of them outside of the region. There have been five fatalities related to the virus since the pandemic began in Grey Bruce.

Huron Perth Public Health added a total of just two new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday, as three other confirmed cases were shifted to the home health unit of the patients. Three of the new cases were located in Stratford, one in North Perth and one in South Huron. There are 51 active cases. One person is currently fighting the virus in hospital. In all, there have been 1,533 cases of the virus confirmed in Huron Perth, and there have been 52 fatalities. 63 Variants of concern have been detected.

Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health added 79 new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday, and reported 607 active cases. There are 11 workplace outbreaks.  Five of the new cases were in Wellington County, where there are 91 active cases. 15 people are currently fighting the virus in hospital, and nine people are in the ICU. There have been 35 fatalities from COVID-19 in Wellington.
