Increase of 19 COVID-19 cases in London-area

New daily COVID-19 case counts in London-Middlesex have dipped back below 20 for the first time in several days.

According to The Middlesex London Health Unit, there were 19 new infections recorded over the past 24 hours. That's down from 21 new cases on Saturday and 27 on Friday.

Since the pandemic began, 6,431 cases have been reported in the London area. The health unit said there have been four confirmed variant and 27 variant screened positive cases in the region.

Fourteen additional recoveries were also reported on Sunday. So far, 6,080 individuals in the London-area have recovered from the virus and the number of known active cases is currently at 166.

Meanwhile, 185 people have died from the virus in the region since the pandemic began. The most recent death, a woman in her 70s, was reported on March 8.

The number of institutional outbreaks remained the same from Saturday to Sunday, sitting at eight.

Southwestern Public Health, the health unit covering St. Thomas, Woodstock and Elgin and Oxford counties, reported just two new cases on Sunday with the case count now sitting at 2,626.

Elsewhere, provincial health officials reported  1,747 new cases on Sunday, 1,167 recoveries and 15 new deaths.
