COVID immunization underway for 90-plus residents in Lambton

Lambton Public Health says almost 100 per cent of people aged 90 and older pre-registered for COVID-19 vaccinations that began Saturday.

The health unit said 682 enrolled along with 202 essential caregivers.

At the Optimist Club Community Hall at Point Edward Arena 180 residents received their first doses of the Pfizer vaccine Saturday. Appointment-only clinics continue this week in Point Edward, Wyoming and Forest.

Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley told Sue Storr on CHOK (103.9 FM, 1070 AM) Monday morning that he's pleased to see the 90-plus demographic getting shots. He said they have to make sure that no one is missed in that vulnerable age group.

"That's one of the concerns I'm going to be raising with the medical officer of health," said Bradley. "How do we make sure that no one gets left behind in that age bracket who maybe aren't on social media, maybe don't have a close relative? The children of elderly parents thought they would just go through social insurance numbers or health cards to come up with the list, that's not the case. So, people if they know anyone who may not have been vaccinated in that age bracket, please let them know how to do it."

Online registration has closed for those 90 and up but Lambton Public Health is still accepting phone calls for a limited number of appointments at 519-383-8331.

Those aged 80 and older will be able to pre-register for vaccinations using the new online provincial booking system when it launches March 15.
