Woman refuses to leave, so police take her away

A Tilbury woman has been charged after she allegedly refused to leave someone's home when she overstayed her welcome.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to the residence in Tilbury at around 6 p.m. Sunday, adding that the woman was reportedly intoxicated at the time.

Police said the woman was asked to leave "several times" by the homeowner and officers, but she refused to go, so police arrested her for trespassing.

A 44-year-old Tilbury woman was charged with failing to leave when directed and was released from custody this morning once she sobered up.

Man allegedly carrying meth walking in and out of traffic

A 32-year-old man is charged with drug possession after he was allegedly spotted walking in and out of traffic on Dufferin Avenue in Wallaceburg Sunday night.

Police said they received that call at around 7 p.m. Sunday, adding that the man was arrested for breach of the peace and was escorted off of the roadway.

Officers said they also found some suspected methamphetamine on the man when they searched him.

He was charged and later released pending a future court date.

Man banned from Walmart accused of shoplifting there

A 29-year-old man of no fixed address is facing multiple charges after he allegedly stole about $150 from the Walmart in Chatham even though he had been ordered by the court to stay away from the store.

Police said they arrested the man Sunday night after receiving a complaint about a shoplifting incident there.

Officers said they also found some property on the man that was allegedly stolen from Dollarama.

As a result of the investigation, the accused was charged with two counts each of theft and possession of property obtained by crime along with one count of failing to comply with his probation order.

Driver found passed out behind the wheel

A 41-year-old Chatham man is facing drug-related charges after he was allegedly found passed out behind the wheel of a running vehicle.

Police said an officer on general patrol made the discovery at around 2 a.m. Monday, adding that through their investigation, police believed the man was driving under the influence of a drug.

As a result, the man was arrested and taken back to police headquarters for an evaluation from a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE). The DRE officer agreed with the assessment, so the man was charged with impaired driving.

Police said they also allegedly found some fentanyl in the man's possession when they searched him, so he was also charged with drug possession.

He was later released with a future court date.

Truck stolen from University recovered

A report about a suspicious person in Erieau has resulted in several charges against two people and the recovery of a stolen vehicle.

Chatham-Kent police were called around 4 a.m. on Monday. One person was seen trying to push a pick-up truck that was stuck in a puddle on Kerr Avenue, while another person was in the driver's seat. Officers recognized the vehicle as it was reported stolen from the University of Guelph – Ridgetown Campus on Saturday.

The driver, a 32-year-old Thameville man, allegedly gave police a fake name and was found in possession of a flick knife. He was charged with being in possession of property obtained by a crime over $5,000, obstructing police, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon, and failing to comply with a Prohibition Order.

Police said the second person, a 29-year-old Moraviantown man, initially ran away but then approached police from behind. He reportedly struggled during the arrest and allegedly assaulted two officers. He was taken into custody after the "deployment of a conductive energy weapon". He was charged with being in possession of property obtained by a crime over $5,000, obstruct police, and two counts of assault police.

Both men have been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
