Increase of six new COVID-19 cases in London-area

Active COVID-19 cases in London-Middlesex continue to decrease.

As of Saturday, active cases in the region are now at 84, down from 91 on Friday.

There were only six new cases reported on Saturday, bringing the overall case count to 6,149.

There were also once again no deaths reported in the region, with the death toll remaining at 181. No one in the region has passed away from the virus for two weeks.

There remain just five local long-term care or retirement homes with outbreaks- Chartwell Royalcliffe Retirement Residence, Dearness Home, Mount Hope Centre for Long Term Care, Parkwood Institute Mental Health Care Building and Peoplecare Oak Crossing.

The latest figures come a day after it was announced that the London-area will move from the red-control level to the orange-restrict level of the province's COVID-19 response framework on Monday.

Southwestern Public Health saw a slight increase in new daily cases. Seventeen additional cases were recorded on Saturday, up from eight on Friday. Elgin and Oxford counties' total number of cases is now at 2,503.

Elsewhere, provincial health officials reported 1,185 new cases on Saturday as well as 984 new recoveries.
