Driver charged with multiple traffic-related offences

A 47-year-old Chatham man who was only supposed to be driving in a vehicle with an ignition interlock device installed is facing charges after police allegedly found him driving around in Chatham without one.

Chatham-Kent police said they pulled the vehicle over on St. Clair Street in Chatham after learning that it didn't have proper license plates attached to it.

Police said while they were investigating, they also learned that the man was bound by conditions of the Ignition Interlock Program, but he didn't have one of those devices in the vehicle.

He was charged with using improper license plates, driving a vehicle not equipped with an ignition interlock device, and failing to surrender his license, ownership, and insurance. He'll be required to show up at the Provincial Offences Court in April to answer to the charges.

The vehicle was also taken away for 45 days.
