Tuesday brings another COVID-19 fatality in Midwestern Ontario

COVID-19 has claimed another life in Huron Perth. Public Health reported Tuesday the death toll from the virus is now at 49 people. A 48th death due to COVID on Friday was a resident at Seaforth Manor, and the 49th fatality was a resident at Caressant Care Nursing Home in North Perth.   15 new cases were added, including five in Stratford. There are 34 active cases. There are no hospitalizations.

Nursing home Outbreaks continue at Hillside Manor in Perth East, and Seaforth Manor. Retirement home outbreaks are ongoing at Caressant Care in North Perth, and Seaforth Manor. Outbreaks continue at St. Marys Hospital and Relouw Early Childhood Active Learning Centre in Exeter.  One active workplace outbreak is being reported.

The Medical Officer of Health for Huron Perth says the region's return to an orange rating under the provinces enhanced COVID-19 response framework is not a reopening or a return to normal.

Dr. Miriam Klassen says the COVID-19 situation is still serious, especially with the risk of new variants. She strongly encourages everyone to continue to practice public health measures, and to stay at home.

Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health added 62 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend, 14 of them in Wellington County.  There are 27 active cases in Wellington, and one hospitalization. The death toll from the pandemic is 27.  Outbreaks continue at Caressant Care Long Term Care in Arthur, and Palmerston hospital. Five active workplace outbreaks are being reported in Wellington, Dufferin and Guelph.

The Grey Bruce Health Unit added no new cases of COVID-19 since Monday. There are 22 active cases and one person is in hospital.  There are no outbreaks.

As of Feb 16, Grey Bruce is in the Yellow Protect Zone in the Ontario COVID-19 response framework, Huron Perth is Orange, and Wellington is Red.
