Just five new COVID-19 cases reported in London area

For a second straight day, the number of new cases of COVID-19 in London and Middlesex County was in the single digits.

After eight new cases were reported on Monday, the Middlesex London Health Unit reported just five new cases on Tuesday. That brings the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 6,033. There are currently 157 active cases in the community.

No deaths were reported Tuesday, leaving the death toll at 181.

Outbreaks remain at six local long-term care and retirement homes

In Elgin and Oxford, there were also five new COVID-19 infections reported Tuesday. Southwestern Public Health, the health unit for the two counties, said the new infections bring the total case count to 2,441, 85 of which are considered active.

The London Health Sciences Centre currently has 20 inpatients with COVID-19, with seven in the intensive care unit.

Ontario reported 904 new cases and 13 deaths on Tuesday. The 7-day average for new cases is down to 1,035 cases per day. The number of people in hospital with COVID-19 fell to 742, with 292 in intensive care and 201 on ventilators.
