If you need a road test to obtain your driver licence, you'll soon once again be able to get one.
The Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) announced Friday that road tests for passenger-vehicle drivers will resume Tuesday at most DriveTest Centres.
"As we safely and gradually transition out of the provincewide shutdown and return to the COVID-19 Response Framework, it's important that we ensure drivers are able to get tested in order to keep our roads and highways safe," said Ontario Transportation Minister Caroline Mulroney.
There is a catch, though. Only DriveTest Centres in regions that are not currently under lockdown or a stay-at-home order will accept appointments for road testing. Mulroney has urged people to respect the COVID-19 control guidelines still in place.
"For those who book an appointment, I strongly urge you to follow all public health and workplace safety requirements when visiting a DriveTest Centre to protect yourself, staff and other clients," said Mulroney.
Drivers who live in regions that are still under a stay-at-home order will not be allowed to register for a test at a DriveTest Centre outside their region. DriveTest staff have been directed to turn away those applicants.
If a region should be returned to the grey-lockdown classification, the MTO said any scheduled road tests will be cancelled and drivers will receive a credit toward rescheduling once the lockdown is lifted.
Written tests and commercial vehicle services are still available at all DriveTest locations, with strict COVID-19 controls in effect.
