A COVID-19 outbreak at a Windsor shelter has resulted in a temporary suspension of some activities.
The Downtown Mission confirmed Thursday evening that an outbreak of COVID-19 is taking place there. It was not immediately known how many cases have been reported, but the Mission did say the cases were among both staff and guests.
While some of the Mission's programming may be temporarily curtailed, meal and shelter programs will go on as usual. The food bank will also remain open.
The Mission's executive director, the Reverend Ron Dunn, said precautions had been in place from the very beginning.
"We have worked closely with our public health officials including EMS and hospital leaders to provide a safe environment for all, especially our hurting neighbours who are homeless," said Dunn in a media release. "We will continue to provide our essential services of food and shelter. We thank our community for their support through donations of food and funding. For many the Mission is the only place they can turn for help, so we need to remain open for them during these challenging times."
Staff, volunteers, and guests will continue to be held to strict COVID-19 control guidelines, with a more aggressive cleaning protocol being put in place.
