Sarnia-Lambton's active COVID-19 case count increased Wednesday with nine new infections being confirmed.
Lambton Public Health said the number of confirmed cases since the end of March climbed to 1,887 with just one more recovery, bumping active cases up by eight to 51.
The death toll remained unchanged at 44.
The number of new cases has been trending lower. The area's incidence rate per 100,000 population dropped to 28 the week of January 31 to February 6, with a positivity rate of 1 per cent.
There were still eight active workplace and institutional outbreaks. The health unit website Wednesday showed an outbreak declared February 7 at Sarnia Jail now involves 13 inmates and one staff member.
First doses of Moderna vaccine have been administered to 739 residents of long-term care, high-risk retirement and Indigenous Elder Care homes.
The number of COVID-positive patients at Bluewater Health was down to one Wednesday.
