Super Bowl party leads to charge

The mayor of London is commending residents of the city for a relatively quiet Super Bowl Sunday.

During a COVID-19 media briefing Monday, Ed Holder said bylaw enforcement officers partnered with London police Sunday night to respond to calls regarding potentially illegal indoor gatherings.

"Only one was found to be at odds with existing COVID orders, and I think that's more than amazing and appreciated," Holder said. "The host of the party in particular was charged with participating in a gathering with non-residents at the same household."

Holder said otherwise, it was a very quiet weekend.

"So having spoken earlier today with our head of bylaw enforcement, I'm pleased to report it was relatively quiet weekend, despite Super Bowl Sunday, and I'm truly grateful for Londoners' participation and really being mindful of what needed to be done."

Under the province's current COVID-19 framework, there's a ban on indoor social gatherings with anyone outside of a person’s household.
