Oneida Nation of the Thames records first COVID-19 death

Oneida Nation of the Thames is reporting its first death related to COVID-19.

According to a statement released on Saturday, the community was notified of the death on Friday by public health officials.

"Our entire community is grieving today and our hearts go out to the families who are directly affected by this loss," said Chief Adrian Chrisjohn. "Due to health restrictions on gatherings, our community is not able to mourn in our respective ways however, let's take this time to keep the family in our thoughts."

Chrisjohn added that no further details will be shared about the death out of respect for the families.

As of Saturday evening, Oneida Nation of the Thames was reporting a total of 92 resolved cases and one active case.
