COVID-19 pandemic measures firmly in place at Seaforth Long-Term Care following first vaccine doses

The Chief Seniors’ Advocate and Strategic Partnerships Officer at Southbridge Care Homes says the COVID-19 pandemic is being handled very carefully at the Seaforth Long-Term Care Home.

Candace Chartier says the residents in Seaforth are stable and being monitored consistently. She also says the current vaccine shipping issues will hopefully not affect the home too much because residents have already had their first dose, but they are taking additional precautions.

"We have brought in a nurse practitioner, an epidemiologist, as well as our rapid response team on-site and we're also receiving support from the in-house physicians, as well as an additional physician to come in and support the home."

Chartier adds on top of additional medical staff on site, the company has taken measures to ensure they are even more prepared logistically.

"We now have 3 HR specialists just to constantly build up our repository of staff so that when a home goes into outbreak we are there. We're sending in our rapid response team and equipping that home with a surplus of staff."

With respect to vaccinations, Chartier says hopefully they are in a somewhat advantageous spot with the delays in vaccine supplies to Ontario, because the first round of vaccinations have been done at Seaforth Long-Term Care.
