Tax advice webinar opens to local proprietors

Small business owners who may be dreading tax time due can have their questions answered during an upcoming virtual webinar organized by the Chatham-Kent Small Business Centre.

The CRA Small Business Tax Advice and Information webinar will be held on February 3 at 7 p.m.

Economic Development Officer with the Small Business Centre Taylor Hughes said in a statement that participants will hear from an expert from the Canadian Revenue Agency during the webinar with tips on how to manage their books.

“The presentation will have a focus on sole proprietor small businesses, but the advice is good for anyone looking at starting, running, or growing their business,” said Hughes.

In addition to advice on tax compliance, participants will also hear about some common tax errors that are made and how they can be avoided.

“We are going to cover the basics including general bookkeeping concepts and best practices, as well as more advanced concepts such as how to use financial benchmarks for relevant industries,” said Hughes.

The webinar is expected to last two hours and will allow for a question and answer period.

“Our expert is usually asked a few things that involves a little myth busting, which is great because it helps entrepreneurs feel a lot better when approaching their taxes," said Hughes.

The tax advice webinar is a free online event but business owners are asked to register ahead of time by emailing cksbc@chatham-kent.ca or calling 1-866-542-5994.
