Perth-Wellington MPP announces funding for local long-term care homes

Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece has announced funding for local long-term care homes in his riding.

In a release on January 25th, Pettapiece says that with COVID-19 being very costly for long-term care homes, the Ontario government is providing funding to ensure that homes have the staff and equipment they need to cope with the second wave of the pandemic. Long-term care homes in Perth-Wellington will see about $991,000 in funding. Funding will go toward measures like immediate 24/7 health checkpoints to confirm staff and essential caregivers entering the building are properly screened for COVID-19 symptoms and potential exposure, and to continue screening residents on an ongoing basis to support early detection and containment of any new infections.

There will also be cleaning, equipment, and operating supplies that go beyond normal levels in the homes, as well as implementing infection control measures based on clinical evidence. In all, 13 long-term care homes in Perth-Wellington will split the $991,000 in funding.

“Local long-term care providers and staff have worked incredibly hard to keep each other safe, and to keep their residents safe,” says Pettapiece. “Our government understands they can’t do these things for free. They need more support.”

“We will continue to do everything we can to help stop the spread of this virus and protect our most vulnerable and the staff who have been working tirelessly to keep them safe,” says Dr. Merrilee Fullerton, Minister of Long-Term Care.
