Sarnia-Lambton has received a limited supply of COVID-19 vaccine, a week earlier than expected.
Lambton Public Health said the first 500 doses of Moderna vaccine arrived Monday, and residents of long-term care homes, and high-risk retirement homes will begin to receive their vaccinations on Tuesday.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Sudit Ranade said the county is very excited to receive the first shipment, calling it a "game changer" for the community.
"This is an important milestone in our pandemic response and Lambton Public Health is proud to play a lead role in this historic vaccination program along with our key partners on the Lambton COVID-19 Immunization Task Force," said Dr. Ranade.
The county is expected to receive additional doses the week of February 1, targeting high-risk populations, Indigenous Elder Care residents, and staff and essential caregivers.
It’s estimated there are 5,200 people in the county’s priority vaccination group.
