Sarnia-Lambton recorded its first single-digit increase in COVID-19 cases in two weeks Friday but two more deaths were reported.
Lambton Public Health said the death toll since the beginning of the pandemic is now at 35.
The health unit reported a retirement home resident in the 90-plus age range died in hospital Thursday. There was also a death from the community in hospital Thursday involving a person in the 80-plus range.
Bluewater Health said two males had died pushing the number of COVID-related patient deaths to 24. There were 11 positive patients in hospital reported Friday, one in intensive care.
The number of new confirmed cases went up by just six over the past 24 hours for a total of 1,736. Recoveries increased by 28 at 1,511, putting the active case count at 190, down 24.
There are 12 active outbreaks including nine in long-term care and retirement homes. Village on the St. Clair now has three deaths, and 26 residents and 12 staff infected. At Twin Lakes Terrace there are 16 positive cases among residents, four involving staff, and one resident death. Vision Rest Home had 22 cases among residents and six involving staff.
There were three active workplace outbreaks with a total of 15 cases.
