Sarnia hospital reports two more COVID deaths

Bluewater Health reported two additional COVID-19 deaths Thursday, bringing the total number at the hospital since the pandemic began to 21.

Hospital Communication Chief Julia Oosterman said the deaths are two senior citizens from a local long-term care home in outbreak.

There are 10 active outbreaks in long-term care and retirement homes.

Lambton Public Health reported 23 new COVID cases Thursday morning, but 55 more recoveries as well. The active case count fell by 32 to 229, down from 261 Wednesday.

The number of workplace outbreaks has fallen to two with a total of 12 cases.

Bluewater Health said Thursday there were 11 COVID-positive patients in hospital.

Across the province, Ontario's second state of emergency came into effect Thursday.
