116 additional COVID-19 cases, two new deaths in London-area

London-Middlesex reported 116 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday and two new deaths related to the virus.

The newest cases bring the regional case count to 4,368.

The latest deaths were two men, one in his 80s from the general community and one in his 70s who was a resident of a long-term care home. So far, 123 people have died from the virus in the region since the pandemic began.

Thirty-eight new recoveries were also reported on Sunday, bringing the number of resolved cases in the region to 3,037.

There are currently 15 active institutional outbreaks in the region. Ninety-one of the cases in London-Middlesex have come from retirement homes while 454 have come from long-term care homes.

Southwestern Public Health, the health unit covering St. Thomas, Woodstock and Elgin and Oxford counties, reported 46 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours. Since the start of the pandemic, the region has recorded a total of 1,734 cases.

Elsewhere, provincial health officials reported 3,945 new cases on Sunday.
