Sarnia-Lambton COVID cases up 48 Friday

The local COVID-19 caseload surpassed 1,100 on Friday.

Lambton Public Health reported 48 new confirmed cases in its daily update, up to 1,138 since the start of the pandemic.

The local health agency also deemed 58 cases as resolved up to 889, bringing the number of active infections to 221, down from 231 on Thursday.

The death toll remains unchanged at 28.

The health unit continues to monitor a total of 15 outbreaks including seven at long-term care facilities. There are two residents and five staff infected at Village on the St. Clair retirement home, four residents and two staff have tested positive at Fairwinds Lodge, and there are four cases among staff at Trillium Village. There are still seven outbreaks at workplaces with a total of 29 cases.

Bluewater Health still has seven COVID-positive patients in hospital, two in intensive care.

Nine young volunteers aged 11 to 17 spent three days exploring and protecting the Lake Huron coastline during the Coastal Conservation Youth Corps' inaugural program in Grand Bend from July 21 to 23.
