A Windsor-Essex healthcare system has stepped up its support efforts for a long-term care home affected by COVID-19.
Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare (HDGH) has announced an increased partnership with Augustine Villas in Kingsville and Essex-Windsor EMS.
Essex-Windsor EMS will place a temporary trailer on the premises of the facility, and HDGH will have personnel on site to help manage the outbreak.
"HDGH will be providing strategic direction, infection prevention and control and education, clinical collaboration in the care of residents, communications support, health assessment assistance, and structured reporting to regulatory authorities," read a media release.

HDGH said its vice-president of restorative care, Joe Karb, will be at Augustine Villas as a lead management resource. The healthcare system plans to assist with infection prevention, education, and stabilizing staff numbers.
About a dozen long-term care facilities in Windsor-Essex are partnered with HDGH already for healthcare, including Augustine Villas.
As of Friday afternoon, the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reported 19 active cases of COVID-19 at Augustine Villas. Fourteen of them involve residents and the rest affect staff members. The outbreak was first declared at the home on Boxing Day.
