COVID-19 cases spike in parts of Midwestern Ontario

Huron Perth Public Health added 32 new cases of COVID-19 Friday, with 100 active cases. The death toll grew by one, as 24 people have now succumbed to the virus. Twelve of the new cases are in North Perth.

A new retirement home outbreak has been declared at Caressant Care in North Perth, where there are eight cases among residents. Outbreaks continue at two other retirement homes, and four long term care homes.

Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health officials added 79 new cases of COVID-19 Friday. There are 476 active cases, and five hospitalizations. 54 people have lost their lives.

In Wellington, there were another 19 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and a new fatality due to the virus. Seven Wellington County residents have lost their lives in connection to the novel coronavirus. Currently there are 85 active cases, 31 in Wellington North, six in Minto and three in Mapleton.

Youth volunteers practice coastal conservation

Nine young volunteers aged 11 to 17 spent three days exploring and protecting the Lake Huron coastline during the Coastal Conservation Youth Corps' inaugural program in Grand Bend from July 21 to 23.
