Village on the Thames retirement home in Chatham is the latest to be declared in COVID-19 outbreak mode by CK Public Health.
The latest information reported by the local health unit on Tuesday morning showed an outbreak was declared at Village on the Thame on Sunday. Jeff Moco with the health unit said one staff member is infected with the virus. The home has been contacted to get more information surrounding the outbreak.
The outbreak at Village on the Thames brings the number of outbreaks in Chatham-Kent to 10, up one from Monday. Copper Terrace long term care facility in Chatham and Riverview Gardens long term care home in Chatham are still in outbreak mode. There are still six workplace outbreaks and one congregate living outbreak in place.
Chatham-Kent Public Health reported 15 new active cases of the virus on Tuesday morning for a total of 140 active cases. Two more local people have been hospitalized because of COVID-19 for a total of four in the hospital with the virus.
The local health unit said the main source of the local cases appears to be close contact during indoor gatherings over the holidays, often with people from high prevalence jurisdictions. Public health officials added they are working with the province to get the vaccines here as soon as possible.
“I want to remind everyone to respect the lockdown conditions, stay home as much as possible and do not host or attend indoor gatherings,” said Chatham-Kent’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Colby.
There are now two active COVID-19 cases on Walpole Island First Nation after one new case was confirmed on Tuesday.
