After a number of Canadian politicians admitted to travelling outside the country last month, many local elected officials have confirmed they stayed put over the holidays.
BlackburnNews.com reached out to the elected officials in Sarnia-Lambton and Lambton-Kent-Middlesex to confirm if they all stayed in Canada, following COVID-19 travel rules and restrictions, and they all did.
Sarnia-Lambton MPP Bob Bailey said he had a "quiet holiday at home in Petrolia."
Sarnia-Lambton MP Marilyn Gladu said she has not travelled out of Canada since before March.
"I’m here in my house in Sarnia alone for the current lockdown," Gladu replied by email. "Hopefully 2021 is better."
Lambton-Kent-Middlesex's MPP Monte McNaughton and MP Lianne Rood also enjoyed the holidays at home, according to staff in their offices.
Several Canadian politicians have admitted to leaving the country for non-essential travel in December, after a trip to the Caribbean cost a provincial cabinet minister his post last Thursday.
Ontario Finance Minister Rod Phillips resigned from his position after facing significant criticism for taking a two-week trip to St. Barts while constituents stayed home and followed public health guidance to limit the spread of COVID-19.
Phillips will remain as the PC MPP for Ajax.
Ontario residents have been directed not to travel internationally, except for emergencies, and to quarantine for 14 days upon their return to Canada.
