Local MOH says there has been cooperation with restrictions

Huron Perth Public Health Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Miriam Klassen, says religious groups have cooperated with COVID-19 restrictions in the area.

Dr. Klassen says they have worked with faith organizations.

“From the Health Unit's perspective, once we have reached out and we have communicated, for the most part, it's been our experience that people understand the requirements, do their best to meet the requirements and sometimes go a step further and even close their faith building,” said Dr. Klassen.

There have been tickets issued in other areas of the province for large congregations that go against restrictions, including in Chatham-Kent and Aylmer.

Dr. Klassen adds they cannot be everywhere but to the best of her knowledge the faith community in Huron Perth has recognized the need for restrictions.

“I know that our staff has worked with some faith organizations who have voluntarily shut actually when they have realized that there's lots of evidence of clinical spread in their community.”
