Elderly man accused of murdering his wife in Wallaceburg

A 94-year-old man has been charged with second degree murder in connection with his 89-year-old wife's death in Wallaceburg.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to the scene on Margaret Avenue at approximately 3:30 a.m. on December 26, 2020 for a report of a sudden death.

Police said when officers arrived at the scene, they found an 89-year-old woman in the residence without any vital signs. Investigators said despite life-saving efforts, the woman was pronounced deceased at the residence.

Officers said "through their investigation, officers determined that the woman's death was a homicide."

Police arrested the woman's 94-year-old husband in connection with her death and charged him with second degree murder. He was taken into custody and will be held there pending a future court date, which is scheduled for December 29, 2020 at 10:30 a.m.

Police said the woman's death is considered an "isolated incident," adding that there is no further threat to public safety. No further information will be released by police at this time.
